Balrog. Senior Member. I have a nearly new Polaris Ranger 1000 (about 50 hours on it). It recently started making a knocking/popping sound when in motion. It sounds like the noise is coming from the right rear area. When I speed up, the noise repeats faster. It happens in forward and reverse. The noise is intermittent.The most obvious sign that a rear end differential is going bad are loud noises when driving or turning corners. I took the rear wheel off and started the rzr. I put it in gear and used a throttle/brake tool to give a bit of pedal to get the rearend to turn.The polaris ranger clicking noise in rear endand front end should be absent now! Haven't tried this on an atv yet, but I use a mechanics stethoscope when I need to isolate a sound. Jack the atv off the ground, fire it up, let it idle in gear. Place the stethoscope on various places, it will be obvious when you find the source of the clicking.
